Gylly Beach Cafe
Tucked right on the edge of Gyllyngvase Beach in Falmouth, Gylly Beach Cafe is one of those rare finds where the location, atmosphere, and food all hit just right. Whether you're swinging by for a morning Full Cornish Breakfast, chilling out with a beer and fish & chips, or catching live music as the sun dips over the sea, this spot manages to feel both laid-back and a little special.
Located at Cliff Rd, Falmouth TR11 4PA, Gylly Beach Cafe sits quite literally on the sand, offering sweeping views of the ocean just steps away from your table. For travelers chasing that perfect seaside vibe, it’s hard to beat. Thanks to its outdoor seating, you're treated to sea air and salty breezes while sipping your Korev Cornish Lager or diving into a bowl of Goan mussels.
Accessibility is clearly a priority here, with wheelchair-friendly entrances, toilets, and seating, making it welcoming for everyone. Plus, it’s one of the few beach cafés that combines this level of accessibility with a full dine-in experience, takeaway options, and even no-contact delivery-a nod to its modern approach without losing its coastal charm.
The kitchen at Gylly Beach Cafe doesn’t mess around. The menu leans heavily into fresh, local ingredients and flavors that echo Cornwall’s rich culinary traditions. You’ll find comfort classics like the English Breakfast and hearty beef burgers, alongside more refined options such as scallops, smoked salmon, and their must-try steak frites.
Seafood lovers, in particular, are in for a treat. The moules-frites here are a standout-plump mussels cooked in a fragrant broth, paired with crispy fries that you’ll probably end up fighting over. The grilled fish is always a solid bet too, depending on the day’s catch. For something lighter, the vegetarian and vegan dishes are surprisingly flavorful and fresh, showing that this isn’t just a carnivore's paradise.
Craving dessert or just want to warm up after a breezy walk along the coast? Their cream teas and hot chocolate are favorites for a reason-rich, satisfying, and exactly what you’d hope for in a seaside café.
Let’s talk drinks. The coffee is genuinely excellent (a rare win for a beach cafe), making it a popular choice for digital nomads and solo diners looking to catch up on work while enjoying the view. If you're leaning toward something stronger, Gylly Beach Cafe shines with its extensive wine list, curated cocktails, and standout beer selection, which includes everything from Guinness to Cornish craft lagers.
Their gin & tonic is another crowd-pleaser-especially refreshing on warm afternoons when the sea sparkles and you’re not quite ready to head home. And yes, they serve alcohol late into the evening, so you can linger longer.
What sets Gylly Beach Cafe apart isn’t just the food or the location-it’s the vibe. Live performances are a regular thing here, from chilled acoustic sets to more upbeat live bands that bring the beachfront to life. It’s a go-to for breakfast, a favorite for casual dinners, and a surprisingly good spot if you're just grabbing a quick bite or even working remotely with a laptop.
For locals, it’s that reliable weekend spot. For tourists, it’s a discovery that quickly becomes a must-visit every trip. There's a community feel to the place-friendly staff, lots of regulars, and a kitchen that knows what it’s doing without ever feeling pretentious.
In a town filled with pubs, seafood spots, and classic cafés, Gylly Beach Cafe manages to carve out its own niche. It's not just a café, not quite a gastropub, and more than just a beach bar. It’s a place that gets how people want to eat, drink, and unwind today-without sacrificing quality or that all-important relaxed atmosphere.
And perhaps most importantly? The views alone are worth the trip. But the food and drink will make sure you stay a while.

Very tasty food, however, not many choices as a vegetarian on the dinner menu. We had a broccoli steak, which could’ve been deemed slightly pricey, and two sides of potatoes which were delicious. We sat in the self serve area due to a high demand for tables, although it was very little burden only requiring going to the bar to order and picking up your own cutlery, food and drinks are still delivered to your table. Overall a very good spot for a meal and a drink and right by the sea for a good view.
Such a disappointment. This place used to be an absolute winner. We went for breakfast, got the full English and it was so overcooked! Bacon was so chewy it was inedible. The eggs were rubbery and the sausages dry. Such a shame as I took my friend there especially as I’ve had such a great experience in the past
Visited twice whilst away on our holiday, we were staying round the corner from this lovely beach cafe and were so happy to have this gem on our doorstep! Our first visit was just for drinks and we had a lovely time. Our second visit was exceptional, we turned up after a previous poor experience at another establishment that left us without dinner. Gylly cafe sat us 15 minutes before the kitchen closed and were so welcoming, going above and beyond to ensure we were fed and looked after. The food was great quality, service was impeccable. We finished our evening with a relaxing nightcap on the terrace with friends. Beautiful views right on the beach. We intend on returning again!
Absolutely amazing. I had Rattler battered fish and chips, and my girlfriend had the 6oz steak. Both meals where superb, full of flavour and presented wonderfully. Many thanks for a great evening.
Delicious and well prepared food. The atmosphere is fabulous and you can people watch being right next to the beach. It would be good to have menus on every table or somewhere easily accessible but other than that lovely visit. Great choice of food and I would have loved to have tried a few more things on the menu!
